Julie Dibens InterviewJuie Dibens was born in Salisbury England. As a youth Julie competed in swimming races. In 1993 Julie accepted a swimming scholarship from Louisiana State University. While swimming for LSU Julie was a 4 time All-SEC Swimmer and she received All-American honors.

After going through a natural burnout from swimming, Dibens decided to try triathlon. It was apparent right away that she had a natural talent for the sport. In 2000 and 2004 Julie qualified to represent her home country of England in the summer Olympics. Injury would keep Dibens from getting to the starting line in the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics.

In 2007 Julie won her first Xterra World Championship title. Dibens has gone on to win this race two more times, in 2008 and 2009. If you ask her she will tell you that she is still shocked to have won this race three times. Julie is also a 2x UK Xterra Champion also the 2008 Austria Xterra Champion.

2007 was Julie’s first win at the 70.3 distance, which

was at the St. Croix 70.3. In 2009 Dibens was picked as one the favorites to win the Ironman 70.3 World Championships. Coming out of the water a few spots back from the lead, Dibens was able to take control on the bike. Julie was able to give herself enough on a cushion coming off the bike that she was able to take the win by over 4 minutes. 2009 turned out to be an amazing year for the Brit, winning two championship titles (Xterra and 70.3) and she beat Chrissie Wellington, reigning 3x Ironman World Champion, at the 5430 in Boulder, Colorado.

Julie Dibens BikeJulie Dibens has started the 2010 season with a win at the inaugural year for the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon. The pro field at this event rivals the stating list of any Ironman World Championship. The question now is, will we see Julie Dibens name on the stating line in Kona come October?
